What is Defrag?

"Defrag" is short for "defragmentation", a process that physically rearranges the contents of your hard disk so that the contents of the disk and each file on that disk are stored close together and contiguously. Defragging also attempts to create larger areas of free disk space using compaction to prevent re-fragmentation. After defragging, boot up time is shorter, programs will launch faster, and there is usually more disk space on which to store more data.
